HISTORY The Peninsula Players, a long time group providing entertainment and artistic growth within the community, is actively seeking new members. It is a totally volunteer and nonprofit organization that is now in its 57th. year of operation, and one that continues to provide live theatre with three full-length productions annually. Since its inception the group has staged in excess of 150 productions and gathered many awards in the Theatre BC Festival. To continue this program there is an immediate need for more volunteers. Community theatre provides the opportunity for involvement in a number of areas besides acting. Other activities are producing, stage management, set construction, set dressing, costumes, properties, furniture, light and sound control, program and poster design, hair dressing and make-up, set art painting and front-of-house control. Lack of previous experience is not an obstacle, for besides help being available there is the additional advantage of ample time to learn on the job. To become a member is a wonderful way to make new friends and become involved in your community. There is another side to community theatre, namely facilities that in the case of the Players are amongst the best in the Province. The group has excellent rehearsal, setbuilding, storage amd meeting space at the Greenglade Community Centre in Sidney, and with The Charlie White Theatre one of the best performing venues in BC. To maximize such outstanding advantages makes it all the more important that an increase in membership be encouraged. It is known that there are many who would like to explore the unique expeience of either being someeone else on stage or being involved in the excitement of backstage operations. It is to those who have a glimmer or more of interest we encourage to take the step.
